Among the many things to see in Gissi, there is the ancient village that holds the souls of a town still marked by the traces of past centuries. In ancient times, there was a castle in Gissi that, according to sources, dates back to the 11th century. A papal bull from 1208 also mentioned a castrum of Gissi. The castle, which housed the governor, the armory, and the stables, collapsed in 1742. The Town Hall is located inside Palazzo Carunchio, a noble building that rose on the ruins of the convent of San Francesco d'Assisi, dating back to the 13th century, of which walls, cisterns, and wells still remain. Proceeding along Salita Castello, one emerges onto Via La Chiesa, where the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, dating back to 1568, is located. In the pine forest of Santa Lucia, there is also the church of the same name, while the more modern church of San Bernardino is dedicated to the Patron.
